Truckers urged to withdraw strike call

Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI: Road Transport and Highways Minister Kamal Nath has initiated a fresh move to negotiate with a section of truckers who have threatened to go on an indefinite strike from August 6, protesting against the revised toll collection policy.

Mr. Nath told reporters that at a meeting with members of the All-India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) on Thursday, the Ministry urged them to put off their proposed strike.

The Minister said such a strike would cause hardship to the common man.

The AIMTC charged that the truckers were forced to agitate, as the frequent changes in the toll collection policy had hit their business.
