Manipur lawyers stage sit-in
IMPHAL: Lawyers, who have been abstaining from the Manipur High Court since Monday demanding an inquiry into Saturday's shooting of Advocate-General Nongmeikappam Koteswor, staged a demonstration in front of the court on Tuesday.
Members of the Manipur High Court Advocates' Association, the All-Manipur Bar Association and the All-India Lawyers' Association have rejected Chief Minister Okram Ibobi's statement that a Minister admitted to having “accidentally” fired at the Advocate-General, so there was no need for any inquiry. The police did not register any case.
The Opposition parties have demanded full details of the incident.
“Accidental”
The CPI(M) said that after an inquiry, the Minister should be punished. If it was not done, there would be such “accidental” firings in future, targeting high-ranking officials.
